24th/25th November 2012 Workshops with Ozgen.
I am very proud to be hosting Ozgen again, his workshops were a huge success at our last Raqs Wombourne. In case you have been living under a rock and have never heard of him; Ozgen has performed, taught, choreographed and directed for the last 15 years. His reputation as a male belly dancer and teacher has taken him across Europe. In Istanbul, he joined the cast of Night of the Sultans combining contemporary dance, ballet and oriental dance. Ozgen taught for several years at the ‘Night of the Sultans’ show in Istanbul & is now based in London, teaching and performing Turkish Oriental & Romani (Gypsy) dance internationally.
As last years workshops sold out so quickly I have persuaded Ozgen to teach 3 workshops. They are all 2 hour workshops, all open level and all guaranteed to be fun. Each workshop costs £20 however if you book before 18th March you can buy them for the discounted price of £18.
Romany workshop: Join Ozgen to learn the Turkish Gypsy Romany dance. In this workshop you will first learn how to interpret the 9/8 rhythm enabling you to be able to dance to this fun and expressive dance. You will learn the correct posture, basic and intermediate steps and turns and most importantly how to use your hands when Romany dancing (including the meaning of hand gestures). You will also learn a short choreography/combination.
3 Turkish Belly Dance: In this workshop the focus will be on the hand and arm movements which make the Turkish style so dramatic. You will learn a short routine featuring Ozgen’s technique for Turkish styling with some steps and turns. It will be fun, dramatic and energetic.
5 Drum Solo: Wow your audience with an amazing cabaret style drum solo. You will learn some easy steps and combinations which you can use to add oomph to your drum solo.
All of the workshops will be at open level and will be different to the workshops Ozgen taught at last years Raqs Wombourne. |

Gothic Belly Dance Workshop with Bex Priest.
Bex is an internationally recognised Dark Tribal Fusion performer and instructor who is known for her blend of creepy characterization and strong Tribal Fusion technique. Her careful balance of personal musical interpretation and her instantly recognisable style has meant that she is known through much of the UK as quite a kooky personality! In March 2011 Bex was awarded first prize in the Miss Bellydance UK Fusion Soloist category. She has taught and performed to sell-out audiences across the UK and is now taking her knowledge and style internationally. Bex utilises her own personal style to create a visually spooky look with beautiful movement and creepy costuming.
Bex's work and belief in developing the student's sense of self and expression with individual movement through dance has lead to her becoming a sought after teacher in Dark Fusion Belly dance.
Bex will be teaching at Wombourne Leisure Centre 11.00-1.00 on the 24th November. She has put together a one-off special workshop that is spooky and goth and gorgeous. This will be an open level workshop and you don’t have to be goth but you do have to like adding lots of drama to your dance. Workshop costs £15 please visit my website www.raqswombourne.vpweb.co.uk to pay by paypal. |

Not a Shikidim Belly Dance event this time but a fabulous weekend of workshops with some of the best dance teachers and a great show. I attended this festival for the first time last year, it was very well organised, there was a great choice of workshops and I very much enjoyed all the workshops I did. There is the best souk I have ever seen and a show which I did not see last year but am seeing this year. I would highly recommend this event.Fantasia Festival |
